What is Wikileaks

Just like
the word 2G spectrum is drawing every Indian's attention,
wikileaks is a word which is turning out to be a nightmare for many, most
importantly United States of America. For those who have just began to follow
the news related to the cables leaked by wikileaks, a natural question comes in
mind – What is wikileaks actually? Who is Julian Assange and why a
no. of governments around the world are worried over the cables being leaked by wikileaks? This article
tries to give the answer to all of them with brevity.

What is wikileaks?

First of all, wikileaks is not related to Wikipedia or Wikimedia or any other 'wiki-'present
on internet. In fact, wikileaks isn't a website at
all. It is the name of a non-profit organization which has been releasing secret
documents of different governments since 2006. The primary medium of these
releases has been the organization's own website. The organization has been
embroiled in controversies within a couple of years of its inception as more and
more documents were realsed by it.

Who is Julian Assange?

Julian Assange is the founder and
editor-in-chief of wikileaks.
He is an Australian by birth and has been
living in different countries for short time periods in past few years. He is
known face of wikileaks in media and has played an instrumental role in
publishing of various secret documents. Assange has been winner of various
prestigious awards including Economist Freedom of Expression Award. He
was named one of the The World's 50 Most Influential Figures.

Why are so many furores against wikileaks recently?

Wikileaks,
since its inception, has been known mostly in the journalism circle only.
General people were hardly aware about this organization which had first
released a document on police killings in Kenya which was a serious violation of
human rights in the country. The organization was first reported prominently in
media when in the month of April this year it posted a shocking video of
massacre of Iraqi civilians committed by US soldiers on its site. Soon, in the
month of July, wikileaks released more than 70,000 secret documents on the
war in Afghanistan. It was followed by the publishing of the documents
related to Iraq war known as Iraq war logs. The release of these documents resulted in a huge hullabaloo,
especially in USA since the documents showed the country in a bad light by
revealing that US army was involved in a no. of atrocities and human rights
violation.

But the organization became a staple of every media in most
of the countries in November when it decided to publish United States
diplomatic cables
. Unlike previous releases, this leak was of more volcanic
nature since it involved all those countries which had diplomatic relations with
USA. Many of these countries, along with USA, became very much concerned since
these documents were detailed correspondences between the U.S. State Department
and its diplomatic missions based in various countries. The apparent fear has
been the spoiling of the relations between the countries. Only a small no. of
cables have been published so far and they have resulted in a huge embarrassment
for USA and many other countries. Julian Assange was arrested last week in UK
and the site was removed from its original domain. But wikileaks continue to find a way to
release these documents and has proved to be a pain in the neck for USA and
other countries.

Greatest Unsolved Mysteries of All Time

A mystery of
any sort is always intriguing. We have grown up watching suspense films, reading
suspense novels and have been witness to a few mysteries of science being
solved. Unlike films and books, every mystery of life isn't solved and in the
past few centuries there have been some great mysteries which have puzzled the
world to the core and there is very little possibility of them being solved in
the near future. Let's have a look at some of the world's greatest unsolved
mysteries

Who was Jack the Ripper

In the year 1889, whitechapel area of
London
was a witness to 5 gruesome murders, all women, within a span of six
months. The unknown murderer was given the name Jack the Ripper. The
murders stopped after 5th victim but the identity of the murderer could never
been established. Why the murders stopped suddenly is also an equally puzzling
question. Jack the Ripper was largely responsible for coining of the term
serial killer. More than 100 years have passed since those murders and
numerous investigations have taken place but Ripper remains an unsolved mystery
till date.

Where did Amelia Earhart disappear

Amelia Earhart was a
famous American woman pilot who set many flying records. She was the First woman
to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1930's she decided to take a solo
flight around the globe in an attempt to become the first woman to do so. She
got disappeared while doing so on the way to Howland Island on July 2, 1937.
Since then there has been no solid information about her whereabouts. Various
theories have been put forward like a plane crash or her being captured but none
could be proved conclusively. She remains the most famous person to have
disappeared suddenly and the mystery surrounding her disappearance continues to
puzzle.

What happened to DB Cooper

On November 24th, 1971, a guy who gave
his name as Dan Cooper, hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in USA and demanded $
200,000 in return. He was paid money at Seattle. Along with money he also
demanded 4 parachutes, 2 of which were used by him to jump from the plane once
it got back into the skies. An exhaustive manhunt was launched by the police to
find the culprit and the money but no trace of him, parachute or the money could
be found. It was raining heavily when Cooper jumped from the plane and according
to FBI he had a very slim chance to survive. Even then finding no trace of him
was enough to baffle the authorities. A part of the money was found few years
later in the nearby area but who was Cooper and what happened to him after the
jump remains one of the biggest mysteries of the aviation history.

Bermuda Triangle

Bermuda Triangle is an area in the Atlantic
Ocean where dozens of airplanes, ships and boats have disappeared without a
trace in past more than 50 years. There is no definite reason why such thing
happened. The opinion is divided regarding the mystery of the triangle. Many
believe that due to some alien or supernatural force, such incidents happen. Few
attribute it to the nature. But there are many others who are of the opinion
that many of the accidents were reported falsely and there is nothing
extraordinary in Bermuda Triangle which devours planes and ships. The debate
rages on but a conclusion haven't been reached. So, triangle continues to be a
source of mystery for many people around the world.

Who wrote Voynich manuscript

Voynich manuscript is the name
given to a book which was written in the 14th century and got its name from book
dealer Wilfrid M. Voynich, who acquired it in 1912. The book remains a mystery
since the script, language as well as author of the book has never been
identified. The carbon dating method could give the idea about the time around
which the book was written. Many cryptographers have tried to understand it
since its discovery. But the purpose of writing it as well as other aspects of
the book remains hidden behind a veil of mystery even today.

Do Yeti really exist

One of the greatest mysteries of Himalayas is
Yeti, an ape like creature which is supposed to roam the snow capped
mountains of the area. Over the last more than hundred years, various
mountaineers have claimed seeing a yeti or his foot prints in the snow which was
of double the size of a human foot. But no conclusive evidence could be found to
establish the authenticity of these claims. On the other hand there has been no
conclusive theory to prove the yeti a part of folklore or legend as well. It
continues to intrigue the mountaineers visiting the Himalayas.

Did Marilyn Monroe really commit suicide

One of the most prolific
Hollywood actresses Marilyn Monroe
was found dead on August 5, 1962 at her
home in Los Angeles. Her death was declared as a possible suicide by overdose of
drugs but the circumstances surrounding her death contradicted it. It was widely
believed that her proximity with the Kennedys (President john F Kennedy and
his brother Robert Kennedy)
led her to her untimely demise. But it could
never be established that they had any hand in it. Whether Monroe was killed or
did she commit suicide remains one of the most mysterious question of the 20th
century.

Who was behind Chicago Tylenol murders

In 1982, as many as seven
persons died in Chicago after consuming Tylenol capsules. It was later
found that those capsules had been poisoned using potassium cyanide, a deadly
poison. This unfortunate incident made the company Johnson & Johnson
to recall as many as 31 million bottles from around the country, though very few
bottles were found tempered with. The case hasn't been solved yet and the
investigations still continue.

Did Atlantis really exist

Atlantis is the name of an island
which was supposedly was the home to a very advanced civilization and then sank
into the Atlantic ocean in a single day suddenly. The island was first mentioned
by noted philosopher Plato and is believed to have been in existence around 9600
BC. There has been no proof whether the island ever existed neither the claim
that it sunk into the ocean suddenly without any reason. No fixed opinion has
been formed on the genuineness of the island in absence of any solid proof but
its story has been intriguing the people since last many hundred years.

Who created the statues of Easter Island

Easter Island is an
island situated in Pacific Ocean. The place is a famous tourist spot as well as
a source of puzzle due to 887 statues erected there. There is no conclusive
evidence to say who created these statues. They are a long as 30 feet and weigh
in tons. It is difficult to ascertain how these statues were made on this remote
island in the time when there was no sophisticated machinery was available. Few
people opine that it was the work of extraterrestrials but yet again there is no
clear answer to the question.

Did Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose really die in the crash

The enigma
surrounding the death of Netaji remains the greatest mystery of India.
The plane in which he was supposed to be travelling crashed in Taiwan in August
18, 1945. It is said that he got badly injured in the crash and died in the
hospital later. The body was cremated later. But there has been dispute on this
chain of events. Many people believe Netaji didn't die in the crash; in fact he
wasn't on the plane in the first place. It is also said that he lived in
disguise in India for many years after that. The rumours of conspiracy theory
also do the rounds but there hasn't been any concrete answer to it and even
today his death remains a disputed topic.

Who is/was stoneman

The greatest crime myster of Independent India
is a series of murders that took place in two different metropolitan cities in
two different time periods. The killer, which was given the name Stoneman
by the media since he committed murders using stones, first struck Mumbai in
1985-87 and killed almost a dozen. The stoneman killings then began in Kokata in
1989 and more than a dozen were dead there as well. The identity of the killer
is a mystery and so is the question whether the killers in Mumbai and Kolkata
were the same or different. Even after a lot of efforts, police couldn't get a
single clue about the murderer and the case is still unsolved.

Bond to the inner self…carve your path to success.

Our life is what we make of it. Truly, the choices and decisions we make
during this journey mould its flow. As humans, we constantly face myriad
situations. So, how to deal with these...how to make the right choices and most
importantly, how to succeed as we sail through this ocean of life. Spiritual
connect or bonding with the inner self helps solve this
predicament...

Humans are
born with a conscience and the power of discretion, too. They know by
instinct the difference between good and bad; right and wrong. In a normal state
of mind, most of our actions or reactions or both are based on this acumen only.
By 'normal', I mean a state of calmness which is untouched by negative emotions
like anger, fear or anxiety. This can only be achieved by practising equanimity
in every situation of our lives to remain perpetually unaffected by the
happenings. This is a sure-shot way to everlasting happiness and forms the
essential armour in the battle of life.

Emotions, which routinely
affect our actions and more importantly, our reactions, if not controlled, can
trigger off undesirable consequences. People tend to be too happy in delightful
conditions and become gloomy in a distressing situation. In case of humans, this
sort of reaction is normal and quite expected, but should not be allowed to go
beyond control.

Of all creatures on Earth, God has bestowed the humans
with the power of shaping their own destinies. Though, all the circumstances in
our lives are not in our hands, but the way we 'react' to them, surely is! In
the journey of life, we tread this worldly path broadly in two ways…we are
either 'acting' i.e., taking wilful action to reach a goal and to fulfil our
ambitions…OR we are 'reacting' to a situation we find ourselves in. Mostly, if
not always, the situations are the results of one's earlier actions. If they are
congenial, we are heartened and cherish the happy moments. Many people also take
this opportunity to thank the Almighty for his kindness and compassion.

On the other hand, a problem or an undesirable situation, in most cases,
causes the negative emotions to take over. But, one must understand that the
problems always come with their solutions and a time-frame! Further, these
solutions may need human effort. It may take time and patience, but faith is
actually what we need in order to go through that phase and keep tabs on our
'reactions'. If we keep immaculate faith, sooner or later, the time arrives when
God helps us find the exit out of the dim cavern of the difficulties we were
facing and our soul is enlightened with the dawn of knowledge. The soul
thus enlightened shines forth and fills the individual's life with goodness and
fragrance of righteousness. These experiences help us emerge as better
individuals...better human beings.

All of us wish to be successful
in our lives…be it materially, socially, academically or in any field we are
enthusiastic about. Of course, this can be done by hard work and oodles
of energy. But this energy also needs channelization. And for this, we
need to unlock those faculties which we still haven't used and which lie
dormant, deep in our system. To do this, let us envisage a space in our
minds…space that houses all our thoughts, emotions, observations, experiences
and whatever we witness in this life. Quite genuinely, we, in a subtle manner,
spend our life in this massive space. A closer look to this inner space will
reveal our innermost desires, wishes, aspirations, thoughts and talents
too!!!

The contours of this inner space are of different hues.
They are vividly painted with the colours of our creativity, talents, ambitions,
wishes, desires, happiness, tranquillity and fulfilment. There may be some
negative images also. We connect with different shades of this space in diverse
situations. We virtually dwell in those spaces when we connect to our inner
self. We know our ingenuity, our strengths, and our weaknesses and this
knowledge helps us deal with our emotions in a better way. This spiritual
connect
also widens our approach towards life and amplifies our chances to
excel and succeed in the field we choose for us.

Though not easily
observed, but our lives are continuously shaped by the choices we make.
While making these significant choices, we are steered by our thoughts that are
in turn fashioned by our observations, education, surroundings, experiences and
most importantly what we cultivate. Our social circle also influences us, but to
a limited extent, for we are solely responsible for what we choose especially if
we have the freedom of choice. So instead of blaming someone else or complaining
about the conditions, let's seek the advice of the conscience before making a
choice which never lets you down. We must bear in mind that the choice is
entirely ours. We are the manipulators of our destinies. Our life depends on us
and not the other way around.

Spirituality or bonding with your
inner self not only acts as a booster in this joy-ride, but also empowers the
soul. Being spiritual doesn't mean being inactive. Inaction will only instil a
sense of powerlessness and worthlessness. Contrary to which, taking the right
action
with a determined approach will definitely lead to fruitful
and heart-warming results. Spiritual detachment urges people to work with a
sense of detachment so that they remain aloof and unaffected by the results.
This detachment, in turn leads to knowledge that frees the soul and unlocks the
path to success.

The thorny interactions with life are as much a part of
our lives as the good ones. They help us grow as an individual and are
absolutely essential for the refinement of our soul. Hence, one should never
complain, and view these 'hiccups' as opportunities to go nearer to God. Of
course, life is too magnificent and precious to be wasted by pondering on the
poignant times. There are many occasions when people tend to judge you in an
unfair way, considering the fact that what they know, is only a portion of the
total picture which is actually known and governed by God. Unfair criticism
should not be taken to heart especially when you know that God knows the full
picture and will be fair and help you rise again, that too phenomenally. This
happens if and only if you keep faith and be patient during the mayhem and of
course put in a lot of hard work. Not to forget, one should always assess a
situation and review it for any follies that may have occurred on the
individual's part, for the sake of perfection.

Righteousness,
hard work, patience, genuine bonding with the inner-self and the blessings of
God make for an unbeatable combination to fight the battle of life. And, genuine
exploration of your 'inner space' for the truth will definitely make you stand
in a good stead in life. The secret lies in the spirit to move on with a
never-say-die-attitude and working each day with a purpose, thus enjoying
the glorious gift from God, we know as…Life.

At this
juncture, following words come spontaneously to my mind and fill my 'inner
space' with positive vibes...

A fight cannot be won unless
fought
You have a goal to reach, a truth to be sought
Move on Man with
faith in your heart
Life is a portrait and living is an
art.

A Change in My Life......

It was on 26th March,2010 we had our CSIBORG(A Computer Science Student's Organization) 1st anniversary celebrations. We the students of CSE Dept were very much excited about the event. In particular I was very much excited about the event and was expecting some chief guests from any IT companies or some Technical Resource persons. At this point of time I heard that they have invited a Space Scientist as a Chief Guest for the event. Then I was puzzled and thought that how a Space Scientist could address CSE students. To be frank I just thought of attending it for just 10 to 15 minutes. Then the program started with a prayer song followed by Principal's address to the students(it was completely boring), then HOD(CSE) addressed the students(again got bored and was feeling that I must leave), then HOD IT and HOD MCA also addressed the gathering and by this time my head was completely aching. Immediately I thought I must leave the auditorium before the scientist (The Chief Guest) could start his lecture or his speech. But then thought that I must wait for atleast  10 minutes as it won't be good on my part to leave before the chief Guest starts addressing and if I do so my faculty will be noticing me. Then was patiently waiting for his speech to start so that I could leave as soon as possible. Then the Scientist came near the mike and started addressing the students. The first line he told was, " This is not a good college as the students of this College are not disciplined ". I was shocked by his words and thought that how come a Chief Guest can make such a comment about the college in his first line itself. Then he asked us to arrange the chairs properly in a line (they were arranged irregularly), every one of us stood and started arranging our chairs properly and then he told us, that he is still not satisfied with the arrangement. Then again we arranged them, we were laughing to each other saying that what is he making us to do. Then I have realized that everyone became active by this and that his intention was not to make us arrange chairs properly but to make us adjust our mood properly that are to make us active. Then he started his speech which was really amazing. I have never heard such a speech before. It was filled with energy. It has filled our mind with new knowledge. It was inspiring, motivating, refreshing....words are not enough to describe...I just forgot about my headache, I was completely immersed in listening to him...Then somebody came and said that the college buses have started...Then I have realized that the time is 4:25 pm (usually our college gets over by 3:15pm) I really don't know how the time had passed..This was the first time in 3 years (I was in my 3rd year) of my college life that I didn’t want to leave the college, I really wanted to listen to his speech for some more time. I am just unable to find even words to express the feeling after listening to his speech. I thought of meeting him after the session but don't know why, I was scared to meet him. Even till date I feel for the same that, why didn’t I meet him on that day(Now I communicate with him regularly). THIS WAS THE TURNING POINT IN MY LIFE. I have decided that reading books, getting marks and then getting a job is not the only Motto in Life, I must learn as much as possible, I must be creative, I must become a good citizen just not living for myself but must be helpful to others, I must generate new ideas..etc.
After his speech I have sent him a sms to his mobile saying that " Sir I am Anusha of CSE, JBREC, today I was really inspired by ur speech and would like to become ur student" then immediately I got a reply from him saying that "dear anusha, u r most welcome. I am with u. god bless u." I was really excited after getting a reply from him. At that moment I have decided to follow the words which he has told us. The main thing that I have learnt from him is the real meaning of LIFE i.e., Life is to be Lived In Full Enjoyment. Since that day to till date, I am really enjoying everything in my Life like exams, studies..what not everything....

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr T.P.Sasikumar, who has changed my way of thinking and my way of seeing the life. Today I can proudly say that I have learnt so much in life..which I would have never learnt if I wouldn't have attended his session on 26th March. I am also confident that I would be reaching heights in my career with his inspiration...

Thank u Professor....Thank u soo......much..
